April 11, 2016 – The AMFA National Executive Council (NEC) has finished reviewing applications for the 2016 AMFA Scholarship. We are excited to further note that we have added an additional scholarship of $2500, bringing our total to two scholarships in 2016. Those who applied had to be currently enrolled in a school or university to gain their Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license. They needed to be a US Citizen and were required to submit a 500-word essay expressing why they chose aircraft maintenance as a career.

Justin Madden, AMFA National Secretary/Treasurer recently announced the winners at the AMC Maintenance Skills Competition held in Dallas, Texas. Kyle Abbott from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and Matthew Trowbridge from Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics were chosen to receive the scholarships.

"Assisting in the education of the next generation of Aircraft Maintenance Technicians (AMTs) is one of AMFA’s ambitions," said Louie Key, AMFA National Director. "We are delighted to be offering this opportunity as costs have risen to obtain a FAA Airframe & Powerplant license, and we thank those who applied as competition was keen."

The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association was established in 1962 as a craft focused union that represents AMTs and related employees and advocates for the craft. The motto of the Association is "safety in the air begins with quality maintenance on the ground." AMFA currently represents AMTs and related employees at Alaska Airlines and Southwest Airlines.
