Compliance Reminder: Safety and Standards Awareness
Mar 18, 2021

March 18, 2021

Distractions – Pandemic, job security, health concerns and any other life stress may contribute to distraction while on the job. As licensed professionals, we must remain committed to our task at hand in order to ensure the safety of the passengers that we serve. Compliance is our first responsibility, not flight schedule. To combat the effects of distraction, take time to double check your work and always utilize the correct manual.  The FAA’s Dirty Dozen list identifies distractions as the #1 cause of forgetting things, including what has or has not been done in a maintenance task.

Address Updates – Did you move recently or change your permanent mailing address? Federal Aviation Regulation 65.21 requires that all certificate holders update their permanent mailing address within 30 days. Click here to update your address with the FAA. In addition, be sure to notify your respective company as well as AMFA National of any contact information updates.  To update your address, visit the following websites:

Professional Standards Committee – Each AMFA Local has a Professional Standards Committee that may be used to resolve conflicts between members. This program may be used to address concerns with other work groups as well. Using Professional Standards is the preferred option when a concern is identified, as once the company is involved, they are obligated to take action and AMFA has no influence as to what result may come from their actions.

Reporting Safety Concerns – If you observe a safety concern, report it. AMFA participated in the Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) at all three AMFA represented carriers, and each has internal methods that can be utilized by our members to notify the company of any safety concern. Additionally, the FAA Hotline reporting system may be utilized by anyone to report concerns of aviation safety, where you may elect to remain anonymous or confidential.

As always stay safe and watch out for yourselves and each other.

In Solidarity,

Scott King
National Safety & Standards Director
